About Leslie

I am a multi-media artist, currently concentrating in oils, but I always relish the excitement that comes when I pick up a watercolor brush or a piece of pastel.

“I was born and brought up on the New England coast and it is here I always find my inspiration to paint.” I am known mostly for my landscapes and landscape/marine paintings, but enjoy painting almost everything. “ Enthusiasm in painting what you know is always the key to expression “. Light and composition are the two basic elements I look for before beginning a painting. They are the solid bases with which I build my painting on.

I attended the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts and majored in painting and design.

I was a board member on the Kittery and York Art Association, and was one of the first members who originated the Seacoast Area Artists Association.

I worked with Elyot Henderson teaching the first Art Program for the York High School students in York, Maine.

My studies have been with pastellist Robert Brackman, watercolor/oil painter William Preston, oil painter Elyot Henderson, watercolor/ oil painter George Carpenter, and oil painter Adeline Goldminc-Tronzo. I furthered my learning by taking classes from Val Thelin, Claudette Gamache and Dustan Knight, who were so willing to give of their knowledge and talent to help others.

My works were shown in:

Darien and Rowayton, Connecticut Art Festivals, where I won my first blue ribbon and I have since been shown at:

From a critique by Rose Safran: “This is a versatile artist who shifts around as many creative people tend to do; yet she remains respectful of and solidly grounded in her serious early training which has stood her well.”

The most gratifying judges comment I ever received for an oil painting was “The composition is unpredictably arranged, the paint quality is better than most, and the light and color are solid.”

Another in reference to a Pastel was “Wonderful use of color, nice composition and excellent use of the medium.”
